The Dallas Church of God was founded on August 30, 1947 in the small town of Dallas, NC after a dedicated woman of God, Sister Eda Wineberger began to go into the streets, inviting children and youngsters to come and worship God in a nearby tent. After the children began inviting their parents, souls were saved and the Dallas Church of God was established. Located on College Street only blocks from the town courthouse which served as the County Seat for Gaston County from 1846 until 1911, the Dallas Church of God has served the community over the years under the direction leadership of seven pastors. Under the leadership of current Pastor D. R. Shortridge, the church has grown both in membership and spirituality as well as expanding geographically. At least eleven parcels of land/property have been purchased around the original College Street location where Sister Wineberger and her congregation built the first sanctuary. A small fellowship hall and parsonage was added in the following years. Just prior to Brother Shortridge becoming the Pastor in July of 1975, the acting Pastor Clark became ill, not able to attend to the duties of pastor and the church began to struggle financially. The dedicated women of the church sold chicken dinners, hamburgers and hotdogs to keep the doors open. Since Pastor Shortridge assumed the pastorate and with the sacrifices made by the membership body, several buildings have been erected. A desperately needed fellowship hall was complete in 1979. In the following years the church experienced much growth and a larger place of worship was needed. The parsonage was moved to another parcel and renovated to make way for a sanctuary addition that the congregation would move into in 1989. In 2000 a family life center was constructed. In recent years the services have become available live online, reaching viewers all over the world. Services are also archived for viewing anytime.
At Dallas, we believe in worship and allowing the Holy Spirit to move in our services. We believe in the power of prayer, love to hear the preached word and are hungry for a move of God in our midst. God has blessed the Dallas Church of God over the years and it all began because a precious woman of God obeyed His call. If you ever have a chance to visit us or are ever in the area, we would welcome you to do so.
